Deck the halls and blow the baubles this Christmas as London Glassblowing Gallery offers customers a chance to show off their own touch of festive flair. The Bermondsey Street gallery, one of Europe’s leading glassmaking workshops, will be hosting bauble blowing sessions run by its resident artists throughout November and December.
The 15-minute slots, priced at £50 each, will allow customers to make the most of expert guidance to create a piece of Christmas magic and a delightful decoration for the tree to take home. There will also be sessions where shoppers can get into the festive spirit by watching celebrated artists blow baubles of their own as part of the countdown to Christmas.
Peter Layton has been at the forefront of the hot glass movement in Europe, establishing his unrivalled studio in 1976 and passing on his skills to a whole new generation of artists. He said, “Christmas is such a magical time and while most of the work we do throughout the year is incredibly serious, it’s lovely to be able to have some fun with our baubles. Every year our artists come up with some incredible designs which sell fantastically well. Now we want to give members of the public the chance to see what they can come up with.”
Established by Peter Layton in 1976, London Glassblowing was among the first hot-glass studios in Europe. The studio has a reputation as one of Europe’s leading glassmaking workshops with a particular flair for the use of colour, form and texture.
Peter produces individual pieces of decorative glass in sculptural and functional forms. Each signed piece is free blown, permitting
a greater degree of spontaneity and ensuring the individuality of each piece.
The studio offers introductory classes in glassblowing, covering all the basics from gathering the molten glass, blowing, shaping and forming. Sessions last the whole day and you can keep your own individual creations.
