Summer Catering Trends – Tapenade
By Tim Stevens – Managing Director, Eventist Group
From an event caterer’s perspective, summer is a fantastic time to show off creativity. As much as we love Christmas, autumnal colours and winter warmers, the first hint of summer brings about brighter colours, creamier cakes and seasonal ingredients such as berries, beetroot and avocado. And the dazzling sunlight just makes dishes all the more Instagrammable!
The summer season always brings about a busy events calendar. From weddings to sporting events and festivals, it is vital that catering companies have some tricks up their sleeves to impress a wide range of ravenous guests.
Our catering company Tapenade, part of Eventist Group, is an expert in planning food and drink options for summer events of all sizes. This year, the Tapenade team is getting ready to dish out tasty offerings at weddings, air shows, private functions and festivals.
Here are their favourite summer catering trends
Pimp Your Prosecco
Who doesn’t love sipping a glass of Prosecco in the sun? Even better, what if guests can customise their flutes of refreshing bubbly with fruits, sweet purees and fragrant herbs? A Pimp Your Prosecco bar allows for some fun customisation and is a great conversation starter when guests are mingling around the ingredients.
This is something that Tapenade has trialled at a lot of weddings and it has proved to be incredibly popular. Let’s face it, we all love desserts, so why limit your options? If you can’t decide between the lemon meringues, the chocolate torte, the sorbet or the cupcakes . . .lay them all out on a table! Serving abundant sweet treats from a dessert station provides mouth-wateringly beautiful focal point at any event.
With some summer events starting earlier in the day to make the most of the warm weather, a brunch offering is growing in popularity. Think Bloody Marys, Bellinis, iced teas and coffees, bacon sarnies and eggs benedict. If you are able to provide a bottomless brunch, even better!
Spice up your canape selection by serving mini cocktails alongside them. Whether your platters are full of tiny tacos and tequilas or baby-sized burgers and beers, this trend is certainly eye-catching and delicious.
Sweet treats always look stunning at any event. However, with cupcakes having made appearances on a lot of buffet tables, what is the next trend? Cue macaroons. With an array of colours and flavours for guests to nibble on, a beautifully presented plateful of macaroons certainly won’t disappoint.
Summer provides a lot of inspiration to chefs and event planners. So allow them to think outside the box a little and the food and drink offerings at your event will impress everyone in attendance.
