UNIQUE VENUES OF LONDON Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence
Unique Venues of London, a marketing consortium representing over 80 independent venues, promotes business tourism, putting London on the map as a key events destination.
Only representing members that have a day-to-day offerings other than solely hosting events, the association brings in business from major brands and corporations to A-list celebrities and high net worth individuals looking for something unique and the newest immersive experiences.
Founded in 1993, Ian Fraser, who was based at the Natural History Museum, set up the formally- named Independent Association of Functions Venues after identifying a gap in the market for internal support for commercial event activities.,
Lorraine Thorne, Venues Sales Manager at member venue Royal Horticultural Halls, shares her thoughts on how the events landscape has changed since UVL’s formation.
“It was clear the impact of the associations’ formation on the wider events industry was going to be groundbreaking. The venue teams all faced similar challenges when first opening up their spaces for hire, so it was great to have a forum where, for the first time, we could share expertise.
“For us as a venue always looking to expand our capabilities, the enquiries and bookings that have come directly from UVL have been invaluable. Being a member of UVL has helped widen our presence in the industry, particularly at exhibitions which we would otherwise not be able to attend.”
Jo Jennings, Hampton Court Palace Events Manager, adds, “The formation of UVL came at a time when the potential value of events was not truly recognised, so events teams had little support in-house. Creating an environment which valued these skills and developed better ways of working was invaluable. Since UVL’s formation, our events business has increased by 75%, with further room for growth!”
UVL Managing Director, Lisa Hatswell, continues, “We pride ourselves in working with the very best the capital has to offer and as such, we have 12 royal palaces and historic residences, four UNESCO World Heritage sites and over fifty venues with gardens or outdoor spaces within our portfolio.
“Our venues have a combined 1,000 years worth of experience delivering world-class events which continues to drive high-end hospitality, exquisite catering and stretch the boundaries of what is creatively possible within event production.
“Today UVL represents 87 incredible venues throughout the capital, championing a record number of heritage, landmark and unusual spaces which all display individual character and share a common passion for excellence in delivering high-end hospitality. With over 26,500 events held across all member venues each year, UVL is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in September in style.”
